Jazz Obert is a legally incorporated non-profit association whose intention it is to raise grants, sponsorship and support. All of this allows us to achieve our objectives:

  • To expand Menorca’s music scene, largely available in venues popular with tourists, but often too conventional.
  • To spread jazz as a powerful and always creative music style of the 20th century, capable of fusing with the most varied musical expressions of our time.
  • To introduce our youth, consumers of the most commercial music, to new artistic and musical horizons.

Jazz took to the towns’ streets and squares when we wanted to make ourselves heard, to announce a concert or simply to make music in public spaces and to brighten up people’s lives. The ever more numerous local bands and ensembles have often participated in the celebrations.

The cooperation with other associations, such as Joventuts Musicals de Ciutadella, Cine-Club, Líthica, AMIC (the local musicians’ association) and Escola Municipal de Música (the local music school), have been very fruitful so far. We call ourselves Jazz Obert (Open Jazz), and everybody can interpret it the way they want to: open to the universe of jazz, open to new ideas and proposals.

Our members are the soul of everything we do  a soul which, at the same time, has the material support of public institutions: the island’s city councils, the Consell Insular de Menorca (the regional government of Menorca), IBATUR, the Government of the Balearic Islands,… and a small group of private companies. Being part of subsidized culture is inevitable and we are very grateful for that: we can work, enjoy music and we have not sold our souls either.
