An educational approach to Jazz PDF Print E-mail

The purpose of these music hearings is to educate students about jazz music with a live demonstration, a historical overview of jazz, as well as an introduction to its different styles and main instruments.

In the first year, the project was a joint idea of Jazz Obert and the Education Department of Ciutadella City Council, which included this activity as part of the educational programme Obrint Portes 2000-2001. Convinced this was an excellent way of spreading jazz music, we put forward a proposal before the Education Department of Maó City Council, which favourably welcomed our idea and thus the same activity was organized at high schools on the eastern part of the island.

From its second year, the activity was carried out in all high schools in Menorca as part of the programme Viu la Cultura (Live the culture), organized by the Government of the Balearic Islands.

Since then, Jazz Didàctic has brought jazz to high schools around the island, each year with a different band and a new idea.
