Marc Ayza (Barcelona, 1976) studied at the school Luthier, drums with Quim Soler and Jorge Rossy, and harmony. In 2000 he moves to New York tu study with Eric McPherson, Nasheet Waits and masterclasses with Brian Blade. At that time he meets the pianist Jason Lindner and records 1, 2, 3, with Giulia Valle on bass. He has played with Sheila Jordan, Steve Kuhn, Antonio Hart, Seamus Blake, Mulgrew Miller, Avram Fefer, Omri Mor, Bill McHenry, Chris Wiesendanger, and a great number of musicians of spanish scene such as Albert Bover, Perico Sambeat, Victor De Diego, Eli Raspall, Guim G. Balasch, David Mengual. Currently he is to be heard with Raynald Colom Quintet, Andreu Zaragoza Quartet, Diaz/Valle/Ayza Trio, Celia Mur+Chris Wiesendanger, Swoop Down on Soul and WASTE.
He is now bringing to Menorca his latest CD, Offering, recorded in New York. A powerful groove, refined, suggesting, that mixes up all his background. As he puts it: “ There is no gap between Coltrane and J Dilla”. |
